Kia Ora, Malo e Lelei, Talofa Lava, Mabuhay, Greetings to you all.
I am absolutely delighted to have been appointed to lead St. Mary’s School as its new Principal. I visited the school a few weeks ago as part of the appointment process and came away with a strong sense of a school that works hard to nurture the faith of its children, to meet their learning needs and to give them the opportunity to grow and develop their God-given talents and passions.
I am a Catholic and having been educated in the Catholic system, I am deeply committed to Catholic education. Having worked in both the State and Catholic sectors, I know that our faith is what makes the difference in Catholic schools. I have been a teacher for over twenty years and over this time have grown a passion for working closely with teachers to enable them to be the very best they can be for the children in their care. We have a very exciting journey ahead of us as we work together as a united community to build on the good things that are already in place at St. Mary’s School.
I thought I would tell you a little bit about me:
I am married and have two (almost) grown up children. We have recently moved out of the North Shore to a lifestyle block just outside of Auckland. I migrated to New Zealand almost 11 years ago from the UK, having been born in Scotland. In my spare time, I will be spending my time raising animals and growing our own vegetables in an effort to be self-sustaining. I love to spend time with my family and friends and home is where I am happiest. You may however, catch me at the weekends, at the Bridgeway Cinema or in one of the lovely cafés in Northcote Point.
For me, leading a school is about the people – the students, the staff and the wider community. I hope always to be a good listener and to be able to take the time to speak with you, especially if you have any concerns about your children or about your role in the school community, whatever that might be. Please be assured that as we move forward, our children and their needs will always be at the centre of the decisions we make as a school.
I am very much looking forward to meeting with many of you over the coming weeks and to working with you over the coming years.
With blessings to you all.
